Ding for Android
The closed test is over — Ding is published in Google Play and open to everyone.
What you need
- A phone running Android 8.0 or newer.
If you were in the closed test
Nothing to do: the app updates itself through Google Play, and your practice and presets stay where they are. The test build and the store build are the same one — there is nothing to reinstall.
If the app's page still shows the “You're a tester” note, try clearing the store's cache: phone Settings → Apps → Google Play Store → Storage → “Clear cache”, then open the Ding page again. Tester status is cleared on Google's side and doesn't update instantly.
Ratings left on the beta are seen by the developer only
Ratings and reviews left on a test version are private: Google shows them in the developer console and nowhere else. They don't appear on the app's page and they don't affect the overall rating — reviews from testers and from everyone else are kept apart on purpose.
For a rating to be public, the account has to stop counting as a tester. Then the app's page shows “Rate this app” instead of the testing note, and stars left there are visible to everyone. A review left earlier on the beta won't become public retroactively — if you want it seen, rate the app again.
If the testing note won't go away and the rating block never shows up on the app's page, the remaining way is to reinstall from the store — but only through a backup, and strictly in this order: save the history to a file, uninstall the app, install it from Google Play, load the file back. How to make the backup is in the next section.
Careful!
Uninstalling the app deletes your whole history and your presets. On Android they live on the phone only: there is no cloud sync, and Android's automatic backup won't help — it is switched off for Ding. There would be nowhere to restore them from.
Updating over the existing app is safe, the data stays. Just update — don't reinstall.
If you do have to uninstall, save your history first:
- Open Practice and tap ⋮ in the top right corner.
- Choose “Save to file” — you'll get a file with every session.
- Put it somewhere that survives a reinstall: Google Drive, an email to yourself, a computer.
After installing, open the same ⋮ → “Load from file”: the history, the total time and the streak come back.
⚠️ Only the practice history goes into the file. Presets don't — you'd have to build those again.
